Yogi's Horoscope for New Moon in Cancer: I am Home: Wailea, Hi: July 9, 2021

I love the moon.

I love the moon.

I wrote a whole book about the alignment of home. It is a central theme in my life, my work, my yoga, and my heart. For this reason, and others, the new moon in Cancer has me.

The moon is at home in Cancer, say astrologists, and as so, it is in position to be more powerful than usual. Since Cancer is a sign that nourishes and helps create a sense of security, I’m all in on this new moon.

A call to this energy begs the question, what nourishes you? Like, for real? As importantly, what are you doing that isn’t? Not that everything is a cream puff, not everything has to be mind-blowingly fabulous; we live complicated modern lives and if we are being genuinely responsible there are things we do because they need getting done. Who really loves to take out the trash? Is doing your laundry and act of enlightenment? And how about grocery shopping? I do all these things on a regular basis.

By contrast, shopping for houses on Realtor.com is driving me crazy. For a site that promises you’ll find home, it takes me as far away from contentment as can be. It spirals me far away from happiness and joy, and yet …I keep doing it. This is exactly the behavior this New Moon is asking us to quit, for goodness sakes.

For me, like many others, the tracking of the moon provides a container to hold my swirling life, to stop the madness for long enough to let something bigger hold me while I take inventory. The Moon is dependable and she’s one of our true luminaries (along with the sun). The moon literally holds us in our orbit.

And the moon is ever so beautiful.

The past few months I’ve come off my tracks and lost my formal Moon practice, but the Moon, like any loving relationship, never really leaves us. She’s always with us, she doesn’t change, it’s us that changes.

While it appears there are phases of the moon, it’s truer that there are chapters, levels, moments in our life. Our outward lives change, Our inner world shifts, and it is these more subtle calls of our soul that the moon helps us see.

So “just like that”, I’m back in tune with the moon and the practice of tracking myself with her cycles. . Maybe it’s the strong homing of this new moon, maybe it’s because the moon in cancer is in my birthchart, maybe it’s because I’m feeling out of balance, off centered and out of sorts in the most awesome of ways, meaning I know an internal shift is afoot. For me the moon makes it feel all less scary.

These are some of the questions this new moon in Cancer is asking of us:

What feels new?
What habits and thoughts can you release in favor of feeling free?
What are the top three things that nourish your soul? How can you expand those practices in the next 30 days?
Are you happy at home? What changes are you willing to make to have your own sanctuary?

Allow these questions to stir your consciousness .The act of focusing on what we want and planting our desires with the cycles of the moon requires effort and commitment. So does believing in yourself. This new moon is a potent reminder that we are already home. We belong in this world.

Such may be one of the most profound truths we humans can explore. It may or may not be important to you. For me, it’s serious. Serious enough to start writing about it again. And exciting enough to lift my eyes to the sky instead of a computer screen to renew my sense of belonging right here, right now.

Namaste.
