Full moons seem to get more attention, for obvious reasons; they are brighter, more easily seen, and stunningly beautifiul. New moons, by contrast are hidden and dark.

Hidden and dark are often considered to have sinister tones. But sages remind us, this is where the growth happens. This is the space of mystery, yes, but also magic. Succulent figs start their journey underground, in rich soil.

Libra is known to spotlight balance, harmony and justice. And doesn’t it feel like these issues are right in our face? You don’t have to be a star gazer to feel it’s square (an energetic challenge) to the Pluto (transformation) -Saturn (discipline) conjunction, two planets whereby the principles of restriction, authoritarianism, and power grabbing are front and center. Look a little deeper and you’ll also see the systems that support them. This is the offering of this new moon. And, as if that’s not enough, this new moon sits in opposition (another energetic challenge) to Mars, heating all of this soup up even further, demanding self discovery, and calling each and every one of us to action in an effort to bring relationship of all kind into balance and harmony.

And justice for ALL.

While the dark is where magic happens, magical thinking won’t cut it. There is a seriousness to this new moon and a call to transformation to support all beings, everywhere in earnest. Let there be no doubt this is a difficult and thorny new moon.

But roses also bloom, eventually. And do so even more beautifully when it’s soil is dark.

This is a time of stamina, not spiritual bypassing. Closely examine what you’re doing to deal with intensity as well as ask why it’s so intense and peel away as many layers of your own bullshit that you can possibly bear. Then, do your work of blooming from there.

How you’re loving is how you’re living
